Tikki Tikki Tembo - A Story from China

Kali ini, postingan saya adalah cerita rakyat dari China dalam bahasa inggris, cerita ini pernah saya pakai untuk lomba story telling pada Olimpiade Literasi Siswa Nasional tingkat kabupaten. Kenapa memilih cerita ini? Karena cerita ini memiliki kisah yang lucu, namun banyak hikmah yang bisa didapat,,, semoga bermanfaat, selamat membaca...

TIKKI TIKKI TEMBO

            A long time ago, there lived a family in ancient China, who had two sons. The elder son, who was toinherit his family treasure, was given very long and very impressive name as befitted and elder son. He was called Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo. But he was very arrogant, because he would get his family treasure without work, and his long name would be the fortune. In contrast to Chang, he was second son, therefore not so important, though no less beloved, but he was very dilligent and patient, because he knew, the treasure would come if he did a work.

            One day, Chang was given a job to look for firewood, and Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo was given job to clean and close the well.  But Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo very lazy and forgot his job, he just sit beneath a tree and enjoyed the scenery. Around the well was closed by some rubbish and rind of banana, so Chang who was ran to take a firewood, didn’t see that in front of him there was a well, Chang has fell into the well.

            “Mother, mother, Chang has fallen into the well..!” Shouted Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo.

            “Speak up my precious son, I cannot hear you..!” Said the mother.

            “Chang has fallen ito the well maam..!” Repeated Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo.

            “Chang has fallen into the well? What a foolish boy! Go to the Old Man with the Ladder and he will get him out” Said the mother.

            So Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo ran to the Old Man with the Ladder and asked him to help Chang. And soon, Chang was the same as he had always been. Chang vowed he would be carefull.

            Several month later, Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo repeated his mistake, he forgot to clean and close the well, because he eat the rice cakes in the festival of eighth moon too much, so he felt very lazy. In the noon, Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo went to play with his friend and Chang. When they played, Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo slipped some rind of banana around the well and fell into the well.

            “Mother, mother, brother Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo, has fallen into the well..!” Shouted Chang with his distinctive voice.

            “I cannot hear you, speak up more clearly..!” Said the mother

            “My brother Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo, has fallen into the well maam..!” Shouted Chang

            “What? My precious son has fallen into the well? We must do something at once, go to the Old Man wih the Ladder and ask him to help, quickly Chang” Said the mother panic.

            So, Chang ran to the Old Man with the Ladder who was sleeping soundly beneath a tree.

            “Oh, sir, brother Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo has fallen into the well...” Said Chang.

            “Hah? Who was fallen into the well? What did you say the name was?” Said the Old Man confused, because he just woke up.

            “My brother, Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo, has fallen into the well, please come and get him out..!” Said Chang.

            So, the Old Man fetched his Ladder, and went to the well with Chang, he helped Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo and laid him on the ground, but it took so long for everyone to say the boy’s name that the Old Man arrived too late, Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Hari Kari Pi Chi Pip Peri Pembo has drowned.

Ever since that day, the people of China have given their children very short name.

Jadi itulah cerita rakyat dari China, yang berjudul Tikki Tikki Tembo, cerita yang lucu dan menceritakan asal mula mengapa orang China memiliki nama yang pendek, dalam kisah ini terdapat banyak sekali amanat, antara lain, kita tidak boleh sombong, tidak boleh malas, apalagi malas untuk membersihkan lingkungan kita sendiri. Seperti kisah tersebut, kita akan mendapat balasan dari apa yang sudah kita perbuat, jadi jangan malas dalam melaksanakan tanggung jawab, selalu menjadi orang yang amanah, dan jangan sombong...

Maaf jika ada penulisan atau struktur bahasa yang salah karena cerita ini saya adaptasi dan saya translate bahasa inggris sendiri, mungkin banyak kesalahan tulisan yang ditemukan...
